Storms

Winds of Change

By Susan Cunningham

The wind howls;

Carrying away all that has ever been.

The wind howls;

Washing away the imprint of the past.

Silence,

Replaces the wind with the dawn of a new age.

Silence,

Echoes throughout, melting the past into an uncertain future.

Nothing is the same,

Nothing will ever be again.

Written in March 1996 after learning of my mother’s terminal illness.  Summer storms remind me of the night my life changed forever.
