Universal Studio’s official opening date for part two of the Harry Potter universe is July 8th. Muggles galore will descend into the fantasy world they loved from J.K. Rowling’s books and ride the Hogwart’s Express, eat at the Leaky Cauldron, and take a stroll down both Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley.
The Harry Potter series has brought the love of reading to a whole generation of kids and adults alike. As a writer and an avid literature fan, I am always thrilled to see great works find success. However, as a soon-to-be park attendee, I am not thrilled with the anticipated crowd levels!
When the Hogsmeade attraction opened in 2010 at Universal Studios, the crowds came and never left. Best advice to anyone planning a visit is to stay on-site at a Universal hotel and take advantage of the early park admission perk. However, even with the chance to roam the streets an hour early, crowd levels are rarely scarce. The other time to visit is the hour before park closing. While you will not be able to get into the queue for the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride (lines are shut down 30-60 minutes before park closing to allow everyone in line the chance to ride), you can usually enjoy smaller crowds in the street and shops.
