A Day at the Beach

Despite the December cold, Higgins Beach in Scarborough, Maine is well worth the trip. During a weekend writing retreat, I took a walk on the beach just after sunrise.  Sunlight illuminated the previous night’s dusting of snow and a blanket of shimmering water coated the sand.  Low tide allowed for viewing the remnants of a shipwreck, but one of the strangest sites was the dozen or so surfers catching waves in the 45 degree ocean.
